Charlotte baseball concludes the fall practice team phase this week with the Annual Green/White Fall World Series, to take place at Robert and Mariam Hayes Stadium. Thursday’s nine-inning contest will begin at 6 p.m., with Friday having a 5 p.m. start. Saturday will be a seven-inning finale, beginning at 1 p.m. Friday’s game length has not yet been determined, and will decided based on available pitching for the squads.

The teams have been selected, with the White team being coached by assistant Kris Rochelle. His captains are seniors Jason Harris, Brock Hudgens, Hunter May and Corbin Shive.

The Green team will be helmed by assistant Bo Robinson and his captains will be seniors Grand Dunnegan, Jordan Hudson, Ryan Mas and Corey Roberts.

Thursday’s game will feature a pair of right-handed freshmen, White's Matt Davis against Green’s Brandon Vogler, with the Green Team playing as the home team.

Friday, White will be home and senior lefty Jason Harris (2-4, 3.54 earned run average in 2013) will start for them against Green’s redshirt senior right-hander Corey Roberts (0-1, 2.29 ERA).

White senior righty Brock Hudgens (7-1, 2.77 ERA, First-Team All-Conference) will start the finale as White will be the road team in that contest. He is opposed by redshirt junior transfer right-hander and 2013 Draft selection (16th Round, New York Yankees) Ryan Butler, who will pitch for Green.

Associate head coach Brandon Hall will serve as the pitching coordinator for both teams, with head coach Loren Hibbs serving as commissioner and arbitrator.

Charlotte finished 37-23 last season, tying the school record by winning 29 games at home. The 49ers tied for the Atlantic 10 Conference title, their fifth title in the past seven years. Charlotte returns three offensive starters and 10 pitchers, while bringing in 14 newcomers to the 2014 squad, which will return to compete in Conference USA.

The 2014 season begins Friday, February 14, when Charlotte hosts Youngstown State and Virginia Tech for a three-team, three-day opening weekend. Each of the teams will play a doubleheader one of the three days, facing each other twice in the weekend. Charlotte will play a 30-game C-USA schedule starting March 7, when the Niners host FIU at Hayes Stadium.
