The largest crowd of the season (1,265 fans) showed up to support Charlotte volleyball’s 12th-Annual Dig Pink match and the 49ers fed off the early energy, but could not overcome the last undefeated team in Conference USA as Tulsa won 3-1 (25-21, 26-28, 25-20, 25-17) on Friday night at Halton Arena. Tulsa is now 17-4 overall and 6-0 in league play. Charlotte is 10-12, 0-7 in C-USA.

Senior Taylor Cannon (Elizabeth City, N.C. / Camtech HS) set a career high with the match-high total of 16 kills, while fellow senior Amanda Videmsek (Highland Heights, Ohio / Beaumont School) and sophomore setter Britney Leigh Held (Brookfield, Wis. / Brookfield Central HS) posted their sixth and fifth double-doubles of the season, respectively, in the contest. It was only the second time this season that they both had a double-double in the same match.

The 49ers matched the Golden Hurricane energy and the first two sets were tight. The opening set had eight ties and four lead changes, with Tulsa able to score the last four points of the set after a 21-all tie score.

The 49ers outhit Tulsa .225 to .175 in the second set and after 16 ties and five lead changes, the Halton Arena crowd erupted when freshman Claire Kreuz (Boerne, Texas / Samuel Champion HS) put down the set-clinching point into the intermission.

Charlotte and Tulsa again played a tight first-half of the third, but the Golden Hurricane scored four-straight points at a 14-all tie and did not lose the lead going away.

In the fourth, Charlotte only managed eight kills and despite a pair of 3-0 runs late, Tulsa was able to hold a comfortable lead in the late stages for the win.

Held had 43 assists and 12 digs and leads the team in double-doubles. Videmsek had 11 kills and 14 digs for Charlotte. Sophomore libero Michelle Hovey (Raleigh, N.C. / Lighthouse) had 18 digs for the 49ers as they limited Tulsa to just a .207 attack percentage in the match.

Charlotte will finish the home weekend with a 1 p.m. match against Middle Tennessee Sunday.
