The Charlotte 49ers (4-3-1) conclude their four-game home stand when they play 24th-ranked Wake Forest (5-2-1) at Transamerica Field Tuesday, October 1 at 7 pm
Giuseppe Gentile leads the 49ers with four goals. Aidan Kirkbride, Kyle Parker and Luke Waechter are tied for second on the team with two goals apiece David Mayer and Will Mayhew, who has scored a goal as well, are tied for the team lead with three assists apiece.
The 49ers defense led by goalkeeper Klay Davis and defenders Waechter, Mayer, Thomas Allen, Anthony Perez, Nick Barnhorst and Biko Bradnock-Brennan has recorded four shutouts this season. Charlotte’s defense has only allowed six goals this season.
Tuesday’s game will mark the 16th meeting between Charlotte and Wake Forest, who leads the all-time series, 7-6-2. The 49ers have won the last two meetings between the two teams including a 2-0 win in their last game at Transamerica Field, September 14, 2010. In that game, formers 49ers standout Evan James scored a goal. Tyler Gibson and former 49ers standout Donnie Smith recorded assists in that game.
Admission to the game is $5 for adults. While all youth (17-and-under) and Charlotte 49ers students with a valid student ID are admitted free. The 49ers are attempting to set the school attendance record in this game. The current school-record for attendance is 4,038 which came in an exhibition game against North Carolina, August 21, 2011.
