|49ers Play South Carolina In C-USA Home Opener|
Charlotte, NC - The Charlotte 49ers (4-2-1) continue their four-game home stand when they play South Carolina (2-4-2) at Transamerica Field in their Conference USA home opener; Friday, September 27 at 7 pm. South Carolina is an affiliate member of Conference USA for men’s soccer. This game will mark the 49ers first Conference USA home game since defeating DePaul, 4-1, at Transamerica Field, October 30, 2004.
Fans are encouraged to wear your hoops jerseys to “hoop-out: the stadium. Green and white striped t-shirts will be given away while supplies last.
Since 2000, the 49ers are 8-2-3 in their conference home opener.
Charlotte enters the game on a two game-winning streak after 3-0 win over Campbell, Saturday, and a 2-0 win over UCF, Tuesday.
Charlotte is currently ranked 27th in this week’s College Soccer News Top 30 poll.
Giuseppe Gentile leads the 49ers with four goals. Luke Waechter and Kyle Parker are tied for second on the team with two goals apiece. Aidan Kirkbride and Will Mayhew have also scored goals for the 49ers. David Mayer and Mayhew are tied for the team lead with three assists apiece. Mayhew assisted on both of Charlotte’s goals in their 2-0 win over UCF, Tuesday. Mayer assisted on two of Charlotte’s goals in the Campbell game.
The 49ers defense led by goalkeeper Klay Davis and defenders Waechter, Mayer, Thomas Allen, Anthony Perez, Nick Barnhorst and Biko Bradnock-Brennan has recorded four shutouts this season. Charlotte’s defense has only allowed four goals this season.
Friday’s game will mark the 23rd meeting between Charlotte and South Carolina, who leads the all-time series 14-5-3. Charlotte defeated South Carolina, 3-2, in double overtime in their last meeting which came at Transamerica Field, September 12, 2012. Perez scored a goal in that game. Also, former 49ers standouts Jennings Rex and Donnie Smith all scored goals for the 49ers.
Admission to the game is $5 for adults and $2 for youth (17-and-under). All Charlotte 49ers students are admitted free with a valid student ID.
