The Charlotte 49ers (3-2-1) men’s soccer continues their four-game home stand when they play UCF (2-3-2) at Transamerica Field, Tuesday, September 24 at 7 pm.
Charlotte is currently ranked 27th in this week’s College Soccer News Top 30 poll.
Giuseppe Gentile leads the 49ers with three goals. Luke Waechter, who scored the 49ers second goal in their win over Campbell this past Saturday, is second on the team with two goals. Kyle Parker, who scored the game-winning goal in the Campbell game, Aidan Kirkbride and Will Mayhew have also scored goals for the 49ers. David Mayer leads the 49ers with three assists.
The 49ers defense led by goalkeeper Klay Davis and defenders Waechter, Mayer, Thomas Allen, Anthony Perez, Nick Barnhorst and Biko Bradnock-Brennan has recorded three shutouts this season. Charlotte’s defense has limited five foes to a goal or less this season.
Tuesday’s game will mark the seventh meeting between Charlotte and UCF. The 49ers have won all six of the previous meetings. Last season, Charlotte defeated UCF, 2-1, in double overtime on the road, September 26, 2012. Charlotte rallied with two unanswered goals to win the game. Gentile scored the game-tying goal in the 73rd minute. Then, Mayhew scored the game-winning goal off assists by Allen and Tyler Gibson in the 103rd minute. Charlotte defeated UCF, 4-0, in their last meeting at Transamerica Field, September 30, 2008.
Admission to the game is $5 for adults and $2 for youth (17-and-under). All Charlotte 49ers students are admitted free with a valid student ID. The game will be Faculty/Staff night so all UNC Charlotte faculty/staff members can get up to four free tickets for the game by stopping by the 49ers athletic ticket office prior to the game.
