Charlotte volleyball hits the road for Chattanooga to complete in the Country Inns and Suites Invitational, hosted by UT-Chattanooga this Friday and Saturday. The 49ers will play two matches each day, facing Tennessee-Martin at 10 a.m., followed by the host Chattanooga Mocs at 7 p.m. on Friday. Saturday, Charlotte takes on UNC Asheville at noon and will stay to face Tennessee at 6 p.m. before returning home.

UT-Martin is 3-1 coming into the weekend, with Chattanooga starting out 0-3. Asheville is 4-0, while Tennessee is 2-1 after one weekend of play.

Charlotte finished 1-2 at the Wildcat Classic at Davidson last weekend, winning the last match played against Charleston Southern 3-0. The 49ers played three of their first nine sets past the 25-point winning total. Six of Charlotte’s 12 sets played have finished with a two, three or four-point margin.

Heading into this second weekend, freshman Claire Kreuz (Boerne, Tex. / Samuel Champion HS) lead the team with 43 kills and a 3.58 kills-per-set average. She led or tied for the team in kills in all three matches at the Wildcat Classic, with a season-high 19 in the Friday night 3-2 loss to Davidson. Senior Taylor Cannon (Elizabeth City, N.C. / Camtech HS) leads the team with a .286 attack percentage and sophomore Michelle Hovey (Raleigh, N.C. / Lighthouse) has 51 digs and a 4.25 digs-per-set average to this point of the season. Charlotte is averaging almost a full kill per set more than opponents this season.

The Niners have a better attack percentage so far then three of the four teams they will face this weekend, are tops in kills-per-set average of the five teams in attendance, and are half an assist per set from leading in that category among the five teams.

Charlotte will play in Norfolk, Va. next weekend before a weeknight road match at North Carolina A&T ahead of the team’s home opener, the 49er Invite. Charlotte will play its first home match Friday night, September 20 at 7 p.m. against South Carolina State in Halton Arena.
