The 49ers enter the game with a 12-0-1 record in their home opener since 2000. The 49ers have not lost a home opener since a 3-2 loss to South Carolina, September 7, 1999. Last season, the 49ers defeated Denver, 2-1, in double overtime at Transamerica Field in their home opener, August 25, 2012.
Charlotte leads the all-time series against UNCG 8-7-2. In their last meeting, the 49ers tied UNCG on the road, 1-1, in double overtime, September 15, 2012. Giuseppe Gentile scored the 49ers goal in that game. Charlotte defeated UNCG, 1-0, in their last meeting at Transamerica Field, September 11, 2011.
Gentile currently leads the 49ers in goals with two after scoring both of Charlotte’s goals in their season-opening win over Denver last Friday. Gentile has now scored 21 career goals.
The 49ers defense behind the play of defenders Thomas Allen, Biko Bradnock-Brennan, Luke Waechter and Anthony Perez and goalkeeper Klay Davis recorded their first shutout of the season on the road at Denver. Davis has now recorded 21 career shutouts.
Admission to the game is $5 for adults and $2 for youth (17-and-under). While Charlotte 49ers students are admitted free with a valid student ID.
