Senior middle hitter Amanda Videmsek (Highland Heights, Ohio / Beaumont School) notched her first double-double of the season with 18 kills and 13 digs, but the Charlotte 49ers fell in a five-set marathon to the Davidson Wildcats 3-2 (26-24, 25-15, 15-25, 22-25, 15-11) Friday night in the Wildcat Classic. The match was the second of the day for the 49ers, which fell to 0-2 after a 3-1 loss to CSU Bakersfield in the afternoon.

After trailing 2-0 into the intermission, the 49ers turned up the pressure, logging 16 kills with no errors on 32 attempts for a .500 attack percentage, their best in a set so far this season. The 49ers then stayed hot with a .235 hit percentage, limiting the Wildcats to a .222 in the fourth period.

The Wildcats did manage to outlast Charlotte in the fifth period by posting a .400 attack percentage in the tiebreaking set.

Freshman Claire Kreuz (Boerne, Tex. / Samuel Champion HS) once again led the team in kills, with 19 in the contest. She leads the team with 32 kills in two matches so far this season.

Charlotte posted 11.5 team blocks in the match, with Videmsek getting one solo and five assisted blocks in the contest. Sophomore libero Michelle Hovey (Raleigh, N.C. / Lighthouse) posted a career-high 25 digs.

After a double-double in the afternoon match, sophomore setter Britney Leigh Held (Brookfield, Wis. / Brookfield Central HS) posted 49 assists, nine kills and seven digs for Charlotte.

The 49ers take on Charleston Southern at 10 a.m. Saturday morning for Charlotte’s final match of the classic.
