IRVING, Texas – Charlotte senior goalkeeper Alex Kubrick has been selected as the Aug. 26 Conference USA Defensive Player of the Week, the league announced Monday. Kubrick earns the first weekly accolade presented by the conference for the 2013 campaign.

The Greensboro, N.C., native played all 197:56 in net for the 49ers during the opening weekend, helping Charlotte open the campaign with a 2-0 record. She finished with nine saves, including five in the season-opening double-overtime 1-0 victory over Liberty.

Kubrick then was credited with four stops in Sunday’s 1-0 triumph against UNC Wilmington, including a save with two seconds left in regulation to preserve the clean sheet.

Her two shutouts over the weekend raise her career total to 14 and move her into third place on the school’s all-time list.

It marks Kubrick’s first conference weekly honor since the Atlantic 10 tabbed her as its Rookie of the Week Aug. 30, 2010.

She becomes the first 49ers player to receive Conference USA Defensive Player of the Week plaudits since the team’s initial run through the league when Shannon Huffman picked up the honor Oct. 27, 2003.

Kubrick and the rest of her Charlotte teammates will look to continue its weekend momentum with a 7 p.m. Tuesday home match against Gardner-Webb. The contest can be viewed on Charlotte49ers.com and updates will also be available on Twitter by following @49erGameDay.
