Charlotte, N.C. – Behind two goals by Giuseppe Gentile and goals by Will Mayhew and Kyle Parker, the Charlotte 49ers defeated Davidson, 4-1, at Transamerica Field in their final exhibition game.

“It was a good score line,” Charlotte coach Kevin Langan said. “I was disappointed in how we started the game. We did not start the game with the right mentality. We go to tighten up and start every game with the right attitude. However, we had a great response and our first goal was breath taking. I was pleased that we scored four goals and we could have scored a couple of more. We have to start the game better but I was proud how we reacted.”

Davidson took an early lead when Drew Brown scored off an assist by Kristian Garciamendez-Rowold in the fifth minute.

Charlotte tied the score when Brandt Bronico passed the ball from the left side of the box to Mayhew at the top of the box. Mayhew then passed the ball to Gentile who put the ball into the lower left corner of the goal in the 29th minute.

Charlotte took a 2-1 lead when Monbo Bokar found Gentile in the box who put the ball into the lower right corner of the goal in the 36th minute for his second goal of the game.

Charlotte nearly had another goal in the first half prior to Gentile’s first goal as Kyle Parker nearly volleyed a pass from Gentile into the back of the net but the ball was punched out of bounds by Davidson’s goalkeeper Matt Pacifici.

Charlotte made the score 3-1 when Bokar passed to Parker who beat the Davidson’s goalkeeper Pacifici and then crossed the ball to Mayhew who put the ball into the back of the net in the 54th minute.

Parker concluded the game’s scoring when he scored off assists by Nick Barnhorst and Aidan Kirkbride in the86th minute.

Charlotte finished the game with a 21-8 advantage in shots and a 10-3 advantage in corner kicks. Parker led the 49ers with five shots. Gentile added four shots. Bronico and Mayhew each tallied three shots. Kirkbride and Thomas Allen each recorded two shots.
