|Women’s tennis adds Pahlett for spring 2014 term|
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Charlotte women’s tennis program and head coach Michaela Gorman have announced the signing of Victoria Pahlett from Växjö, Sweden to the roster. She will enter school and become eligible to play with the 49ers in the spring 2014 semester.
“We are extremely excited to have Victoria join our team in January 2014,” Gorman said. “She has had a great junior tennis career in Sweden and around the world in tournaments and at the club level. Victoria has great knowledge of and a love for the game. We look for her to make an immediate impact on our program, both on and off the court.”
Pahlett hails from the same school, Procivitas, that produced recent Charlotte women’s tennis graduates, Anna Ekelund and Alexandra Zinn, both of whom completed their careers on the courts this past spring.
Pahlett has been ranked among the Top 10 juniors in her age group in Sweden, climbing to as high as No. 7 in the U18 division. Overall, including the seniors category, she has earned a Top 40 listing in her native country.
During the U21 Swedish championships, she reached the semifinals of both singles and doubles. She also helped her club team reach the highest division, Elitserien, in Sweden and was tabbed an athletic surprise of the year.
Pahlett joins Macy Vonderschmidt and Willemijn Witkam as signees for the Niners this season. Both Vonderschmidt (McKinney, Texas) and Witkam (Beesd, The Netherlands) will be eligible for the fall 2013 semester.
