|Four 49ers Earn All-Atlantic 10 Honors|
Charlotte, NC – Four members of the Charlotte 49ers men’s tennis team earned All-Atlantic 10 honors. Sophomore Jack Williams and freshman Jordi Massallé Ferrer were named first-team All-Atlantic 10. While, sophomore Paul Cisti earned second-team All-Atlantic 10 honors.
Sophomore Alex Calott was named to the Atlantic 10 All-Academic team.
Williams earned first-team All-Atlantic 10 honors for the second straight season. Williams finished the season with 18 singles wins primarily playing at number one singles. He also teamed with Massalle Ferrer to form the 49ers top doubles team who finished the season with a 13-4 record. Williams was named Atlantic 10 Player of the Week the final week of the regular-season (April 23) after posting wins at number one singles and doubles in the 49ers 5-2 win over UNC Greensboro, April 15.
Massalle Ferrer finished the season with 25 singles wins which is tied for the seventh highest single-season wins total in school history. Massalle Ferrer played mostly at number two singles for the 49ers. He also teamed with Williams to form the 49ers top doubles team. Massalle Ferrer earned Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week honors twice this year. He claimed his first A-10 Rookie of the Week award (March 19) after posting three singles wins and two doubles wins in Charlotte’s victories over Catawba, Wingate and UT-Pan American. He earned his second A-10 Rookie of the Week award (April 23) after posting wins at number two singles and number one doubles in the 49ers win over UNC Greensboro.
Cisti was named second-team All-Atlantic 10 for the second straight season. He recorded a career-high 20 singles wins this season playing primarily at number four or five singles. He also teamed with Calott to form the 49ers number two doubles team. They finished the season with 10 doubles wins. Cisti was the first Niner to earn A-10 Player of the Week honors this season after he claimed the award (February 12) after posting singles and doubles wins in helping the 49ers defeat Mercer and College of Charleston.
Calott, who earned second-team All-Atlantic 10 honors last season, is the fifth different Niner to earn A-10 All-Academic team honors. Brad Clinard (2008-09), Dorian Host (2006-07), Roy Sichel (2006-07) and Zvi Lantsberg (2006) were the other Niners to earn A-10 All-Academic honors. Calott is a pre-Communications major with a 3.92 GPA.
This past season, Calott finished tied for third on the team with 18 singles wins playing primarily at number three and four singles. Calott also teamed with Cisti to form the 49ers number two doubles team. Calott earned A-10 Player of the Week honors (March 19) after posting singles and doubles wins in the 49ers victories over Catawba, Wingate and UT-Pan American.
