The Charlotte golf program will attempt to win its seventh league title in eight seasons of membership at this weekend’s Atlantic 10 Championships, contested for the second-straight year at the Heron Bay Golf Club in Coral Springs, Fla., beginning Friday morning with a 7:30 a.m. start time. The course plays at par 72 and a length of 7,268 yards.

The teams will go off in reverse order of 2012 Championship finish, starting with new members VCU and Butler as the first groups out, putting Charlotte in the last groups of the day. Charlotte golfers are scheduled to tee off, paired with golfers from Xavier and George Washington, starting at approximately 10:30 a.m. The teams will be reseeded before each round, with 18 holes to be played Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

The 49ers will be sending senior Braeden Cryderman (Huntsville, Ontario / Queens University of Charlotte), juniors Franco Castro (Alpharetta, Ga. / LSU) and Joe Toland (White River Junction, Vt. / Hartford HS), sophomore and 2013 Medalist Raoul Menard (Ange-Gardier, Quebec City / Beaulieu) and freshman Thomas Rowland (Consett, England / St. Bedes Catholic School and Sixth Form College) as the five in the lineup this week.

Cryderman has played in six of the 10 season events this season, turning in a third-place tie in his first event of the season at Duke. He finished strong, finishing 10th in Iowa two weeks ago. He has five rounds of 70 or better this season, averaging 63.5 strokes per round this year.

Castro has a team-best two finishes in the Top-Five this season, turning in an 11th-place finish in the final event of the year for Charlotte in Iowa. He has averaged a 73.6 stroke average as the only golfer to compete in all 29 regular rounds of golf this season for the 49ers. He tied the school record with a round of 64 last October at the Pacific Invitational and has posted six rounds of 70 or better this season.

Toland has played in nine of the 10 season events for the 49ers, with a tie for seventh and a pair of other events landing in the Top 20. Toland is shooting 74.3 strokes per round on average this season and has posted three rounds of 70 or better, including a career-low 65 at the Pacific Invitational last October.

Menard took Player and Rookie of the Year Honors by winning the Individual Medalist honors with a six-under 138 after two rounds before the final round was washed out. He will try to become the eighth golfer in conference history to win the individual title twice, the seventh to win it in back-to-back tournaments.

Two different players (Matt Mincer, 2007 and Corey Nagy, 2009 & 2010) have won three Medalist honors in the A-10 Tournament. This season, Menard has competed in seven tournaments for the 49ers, with a 10th place tie and a tie for sixth in Charlotte’s last event of the season in Iowa two weekends ago. He has averaged 74.7 strokes per round in 22 rounds played this season.

Rowland has appeared in the lineup in half of Charlotte’s team events this season, with a Top 20 finish at the Linger Longer Invitational in Georgia near the end of March. His 15 tournament rounds have resulted in a stroke average of 75.2 this season.

The 49ers finished second last year in a rain-shortened event, snapping a run of six consecutive team titles and automatic bids to the NCAA Tournament. The 49ers earned an at-large berth in 2012 to the postseason and have appeared in eight-straight regionals. will have live results at this link all weekend.
