Following a successful first spring tournament in Greensboro, the Charlotte volleyball program will compete this weekend in the North Carolina State Spring Tournament in Raleigh this Saturday.
Last weekend, the 49ers ended up playing eight matches at the UNC Greensboro Spring Tournament.
“It was an evenly matched, competitive tournament at Greensboro this past Saturday,” said Charlotte head coach Chris Redding. “We had to show up for every match. In evaluating our performance in Greensboro I felt that every single player worked extremely hard all day. We didn’t have players taking games or points off. I also felt we looked good at the areas that we have been emphasizing in training. As a team and individually, we took a good step forward towards our team and individual goals.”
The 49ers are scheduled to play five matches of two sets each for a full day of volleyball.
“We head to NC State this weekend and for a step up in the level of competition,” added Redding. “It will be an opportunity for us to prepare on a weekly basis and attempt to improve, similar to our conference season.”
The 49ers graduated four seniors off of the 2012 squad, which finished 10-16 on the season, but captured two early tournament titles in the pre-conference schedule. The 49ers will need to replace some kills on the outside, but had a feisty young squad last fall. Captain Amanda Videmsek (Highland Heights, Ohio / Beaumont School) will lead the team this spring and into the fall season, where the 49ers will return to Conference USA.
Charlotte will begin the 2013 fall campaign at the Davidson Wildcat Classic in late August
