CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Charlotte women's tennis team earned its first blanking of the spring dual match campaign, handing Wofford a 7-0 loss on a beautiful Tuesday afternoon at the Halton-Wagner Tennis Complex in Charlotte, N.C. The shutout is the third overall for the 49ers this season, including a pair last fall.

"It was a tough home match against a very good Wofford team today," head coach Michaela Gorman said. "I was very proud of the way we fought on every court in singles and in doubles."

Charlotte (8-4) quickly opened a 1-0 advantage by claiming triumphs in the No. 1 and No. 3 doubles contests, leaving the No. 2 meeting unfinished. The 49ers' No. 1 duo of Anna Ekelund and Lisa Grosselius handed Sarah Evans and Othilia Lindqvist an 8-2 setback, while the No. 3 tandem of Jessica Pérez and Alexandra Zinn knocked off Emily Przystawski and Mareli Sanchez, 8-5, to complete the sweep.

The 49ers had much more of fight on their hands in singles action, as the Terriers forced four three-set decisions. Wofford (5-7) garnered second set wins in three of the quartet, sending them the full distance.

Charlotte's straight-set victories came at the No. 5 and No. 6 spots, as Ekelund tallied a 6-2, 6-3 triumph against Lucy Schermerhorn and Iveta Guneva posted a 6-0, 6-0 clean sheet against Przystawski at the bottom of the lineup, respectively.

In the No. 3 contest, Grosselius was the only Niners player to drop the first set before rallying for a three-set comeback. She recorded a 3-6, 6-3, 6-0 win against Julia Paulson.

Zinn clinched a 6-1, 2-6, 6-4 victory against Evans at the No. 1 slot, while Natsuko Takayanagi notched a 6-4, 4-6, 7-5 win over Audrey Coventry during the No. 2 meeting.

Tyler Baker picked up the last three-set triumph for the 49ers, handing Sanchez a 7-5, 4-6, 6-4 setback at the No. 4 position.

Charlotte will return to action when it hits the road for Greensboro, N.C., and a Noon Saturday match at UNC Greensboro, Gorman's alma mater.
