NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Charlotte senior forward Amanda Dowe has been honored as a co-recipient of the March 4 Atlantic 10 Player of the Week accolade, as announced by the conference office Monday afternoon. The plaudit is the first of her career and fifth overall for the 49ers this year, who concluded the regular season with a 24-4 overall and 13-1 A-10 ledger.

Dowe, a Tabor City, N.C., native, closed the final regular season of her career by averaging 11.0 points and 18.0 rebounds in the two wins over VCU Thursday (63-54) and at Richmond Sunday (64-55).

She began the stretch by leading all players with 15 boards in her final home regular-season contest against the Rams. Her nine points left her just shy of a double-double against VCU.

Dowe then hauled in a career-high 21 caroms Sunday, the most for a Charlotte player since Barbara Reedus collected 22 boards Dec. 19, 1987. It marks the first 20-plus rebound performance for a Niners player since Sandra Williams' 20 against UNC Wilmington Jan. 3, 1990, while the 21 move her into a ninth-place tie on the school's single-game list.

Dowe added 13 points against the Spiders for her 12^th double-double of the season and 20^th of her career. Nine of her points and 13 of the rebounds came during the second half, as the 49ers clinched their 11^th true road win in as many tries this year.

She will join the rest of her Charlotte teammates at the Buick Atlantic 10 Tournament this weekend as the Niners enter as the No. 2 seed. The 49ers will face the winner of No. 7 Xavier and No. 10 Temple in the quarterfinals at 5 p.m. Saturday.

The Niners also picked up two votes in this week's Associated Press poll, tying for 37^th nationally in the rankings. It is believe to be the first time in Charlotte women's basketball history that it has earned national poll votes.
