Niners head out of state for pair of matches

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Charlotte women's tennis team will look to get action on the courts this week, as it heads to South Carolina for a pair of matches against ITA Carolina Region opponents. The 49ers will open the stretch at 10 a.m. Monday in Charleston, S.C., against Charleston Southern before facing Coastal Carolina in Conway, S.C., at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Charlotte takes a 6-3 record on the road for the two matches, having lost in its last outing, 5-2, to Elon Thursday. The Niners were supposed to play a five-match homestand over the course of the last two weeks; however, inclement weather caused postponements for all but two contests.

Senior Anna Ekelund guides the program with 12 singles wins, including an 8-1 singles mark in dual matches. Her 7-1 doubles ledger with sophomore Lisa Grosselius for duals and the pair's 12-7 overall record tops the squad.

Charleston Southern owns a 2-4 mark but is coming off a 6-1 triumph over Longwood Saturday. The Lady Buccaneers had lost their last four prior to the victory.

Coastal Carolina is 4-4 entering the week; however, the Chanticleers will play host to Longwood Monday afternoon before welcoming the Niners to town.
