CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Charlotte women's tennis
team puts its three-match win streak on the line when it travels to Greenville,
N.C., to face East Carolina at 1 p.m. Friday. The Niners and Pirates have
already squared off against one another this season, having met in round-robin
play during the Charlotte 49er Invitational during the fall tournament
Charlotte's three-match win streak raises the team's overall record to 5-1,
including a 3-1 mark this spring. The 49ers are coming off a 4-2 victory at Liberty
Saturday in which they captured the doubles point for the third-straight time.
In each of its five wins, Charlotte has jumped out in front with a 1-0 lead
after doubles play has concluded.
In doubles, Ekelund's pairing with Lisa Grosselius has produced the most
victories thus far with 10. Takayanagi and Alexandra Zinn are next with six
The Pirates are 4-1 during the dual match portion of their schedule, having
completed a pair of 7-0 sweeps Saturday at North Carolina A&T and versus
Winston-Salem State. East Carolina also owns a three-match win streak, having
opened with a 7-0 home blanking over UNC Asheville Feb. 6.
Friday's contest will be the last on the road until March for the 49ers, who
return to the Halton-Wagner Tennis Complex for a season-long five-match
homestand starting Monday.
