Charlotte golf announces the signing of incoming freshman Seth Gandy to the program for the 2013-14 season, when the 49ers return to Conference USA.
Gandy hails from nearby Huntersville, N.C. and will be a graduate of Hough High School in the spring. The Huskies have not lost a conference match in the brief history of the school, which opened in 2010.
Gandy tied for the second-lowest round (72) of the 4A West Regional at Broadmoor Golf Club, which his Hough team won this spring. The Huskies then finished fifth at the 4A State Championships, contested at Number Eight at the Pinehurst Country Club.
"Seth is a great player and a wonderful young man," said Charlotte head Coach Ryan Cabbage. "He will fit in well with our program on and off golf course."
Individually, Gandy finished tied for fifth at the American Junior Golf Association at Savannah Quarters event in April and tied for seventh at the AJGA Woodward Junior Video event at The Greenbrier in September. Gandy tied for second, two strokes out of the title of the Tarheel Youth Golf Association North Carolina Championship in Lexington, N.C. at Sapona Ridge Country Club in October.
He has been an A/B Honor Roll student throughout high school and plans to major in business.
Gandy will join a full roster that is scheduled to lose one player to graduation this season.
The 49ers competed in five fall tournaments, with five more tournaments on the regular-season docket in the spring. Charlotte next competes at the Houston Invitational at Redstone Golf Club, which begins Saturday, February 23 in Humble, Texas. Charlotte has been to the NCAA Postseason in each of the past eight seasons.
