Charlotte golf will play its final fall tournament in its longest trip of the season, out to Stockton, Calif, and the Pacific Invitational, hosted by The University of the Pacific. The tournament takes place Monday through Wednesday, October 29-31, with one round of golf each morning. Charlotte has had an individual medalist (Stefan Wiedergruen) and a team title, both in the 2008 season.

The course, the Par-72 Brookside Country Club Championship Golf Course, was designed by famed golf course architect Robert Trent Jones. According to Charlotte head coach Ryan Cabbage, "when the wind isn't blowing, you can go low," though last year, the winds were howling. The 49ers set the tournament record in 2008 at 40-under par, thanks to Widergruen's 17-under performance in the tournament. By contrast, with the winds blowing last year, the tournament was won by Oregon State with a three-over par finish.

Charlotte is the only team in the field from the Eastern Time Zone, joining host Pacific and in-state programs Sacramento State, Santa Clara, UC Davis, Fresno State and Cal-State Northridge, along with Nevada, Colorado State, Denver, BYU and Kansas State to round out the 12-team field. UC Davis is the highest ranked team in the field, according to Golfweek/Sagarin, at No. 48. Fresno State checks in at No. 54, Colorado State one spot behind, BYU at No. 66, Charlotte sitting at No. 69, Denver at No. 89 and Santa Clara at No. 99 in the Top 100 this week.

Individually, Fresno State's Rufie Fessler is the highest-ranked player in the field, at No. 100 this week.

The 49ers will be in the last group to go out on Monday morning, teeing off from the tenth hole starting at 8:50 a.m. Pacific Time with Kansas State and UC Davis.

Charlotte will send the three student-athletes that have played in all four of the Niners events this season. Juniors Joe Toland (White River Junction, Vt. / Hartford HS) and Franco Castro (Alpharetta, Ga. / LSU), will be joined by sophomore Raoul Menard (Ange-Gardier, Quebec City, Canada / Beaulieu) this week. Freshman Daniel Brantley (Asheboro, N.C.) will play in his fourth-straight tournament for Charlotte. Playing in his second collegiate event, but the first among the counting five will be freshman Thomas Rowland (Consett, England / St. Bedes Catholic School & Sixth Form College) who played as an individual at the Rod Myers Invitational in Durham last week for his first collegiate action.

The 49ers have a pair of third place finishes and a fourth-place finish in the ledger this season. Charlotte boasts a 30-18 mark in four events so far, with this the last event of the fall.

Live stats will be at golfstat for the week, which will feature 18 holes each day, starting at 8 a.m.
