49ers Tied Fordham, 0-0, In Double Overtime

Charlotte, N.C. - The 16th-ranked Charlotte 49ers (7-2-3, A-10: 1-1-1) tied Fordham (4-4-2, A-10: 0-1-1), 0-0, in double overtime at Transamerica Field. This game marked the 49ers seventh double overtime game of the season and their fifth double overtime game at home.

"I was pleased with our performance and our effort," Charlotte coach Kevin Langan said. "We missed easy scoring chances which is disappointing. I was happy with our performance but was disappointed in the results."

Charlotte finished the game with a 16-4 advantage in shots. Donnie Smith led the 49ers with four shots. Giuseppe Gentile recorded three shots. Anthony Perez and Owen Darby each recorded two shots.

In the 10th minute, Gentile had a great scoring chance but his shot banged off the left post from about 10 yards out.

In the 72nd minute, Smith blasted a shot on goal but his shot was stopped by Fordham's goalkeeper Sean Bailey.

In the 80th minute, Smith made a great run beating a couple of Fordham defenders and Bailey but his shot went just wide of the goal.

In the 102nd minute, Tyler Gibson's corner kick was sent to the far post the ball bounced around for a few seconds finding Thomas Allen about eight yards from the goal. Allen headed the ball toward the goal but his shot was stopped by Fordham's Bailey.

In the 108th minute, Anthony Perez blasted a shot from 15 yards out but his shot was blocked by a Fordham defender.

The 49ers defense was stout as they limited Fordham to four shots and zero shots on goal. Charlotte's defense recorded their fifth shutout of the season.

Charlotte continues their four-game home stand when they play A-10 foe La Salle at Transamerica Field, Sunday, October 14 at 1 pm.
