Charlotte volleyball is set to host its Atlantic 10 Conference home-opening match Saturday against VCU at 7 p.m. in Halton Arena. The match is Free Youth Night, with all fans 17 and under getting in for free.

The 49ers are 8-8 on the season, 0-4 in conference games, with all four of those coming on the road. The Rams are 15-3 overall, with a 2-2 league record, with the Niners and Rams playing the same four conference school on the road to start league play. Following that stretch of four road matches to start conference play, the 49ers will host four more home games following Saturday night's contest. VCU is the only team to start with its first five conference matches on the road.

After recording an average of three more kills and assists per set over the non-conference schedule, the 49ers are averaging three fewer kills and two fewer assists per set while about the same number of digs in four conference matches.

The two teams have not met in volleyball since September of 2002. They will play twice this season, with VCU joining the conference in July.

Junior Amanda Videmsek (Highland Heights, Ohio / Beaumont School) has taken the team lead in kills, with 194. She is one of only two players to play in every set this season. She is sixth in the A-10 in kills per set at this point, with teammate Bianca Rouse (Columbia, S.C. / Keenan HS) sitting fifth. Rouse has not had a kill in the last three matches, though she has played in two of those matches on the back row.

Senior setter Lily Vera (Anderson, S.C. / Stone Bridge HS) sits third in the league, averaging 10.89 assist per set. Fellow senior and libero Jenna Litoborski (Lemont, Ill.) is fifth in the A-10 with a 4.29 digs-per-set average.

VCU freshman Martina Samadan leads the league in blocking (1.47 per set) and is third in the conference in hitting percentage (.358) through the first two weeks of league matches. Senior teammate Jasmine Waters is fifth in blocking (1.11) and sixth (.338) in hitting percentage.

Charlotte will play Thursday and Sunday of next week, with Dig Pink Night taking place on Thursday night against Butler at 7 p.m.
