CHARLESTON, S.C. - The Charlotte 49ers women's soccer team began its 2012 campaign with a 2-1 come-from-behind victory at College of Charleston Saturday evening at Patriot's Point in Charleston, S.C. The victory gave the 49ers their third win in as many tries against the Cougars in the all-time series.

"I'm very happy with the girls," head coach John Cullen said. "It was a great win on the road. It's always difficult to open up a season on the road."

Charlotte (1-0) scored its first score of the season at the 68:24 mark when Taylor Rovito found Amanda Jones, an All-Atlantic 10 Rookie Team pick from a year ago, near the top of the box. Jones then placed her shot in the bottom right portion of the frame to knot the score at 1-1.

Rovito again went to work just over five-and-a-half minutes later, this time locating Sara Trexler to give the 49ers a 2-1 advantage at 73:58. Trexler received the pass down the left side before firing the go-ahead goal to the far side netting past Cougar keeper Taylor Avery.

College of Charleston (0-1) struck first, tallying the season's opening goal late in the first half. After 49er goalkeeper Alex Kubrick kept the Cougars off the board with back-to-back saves during the 40^th minute, the home team kept the pressure on the Charlotte cage late in the period.

Maryam Buazza set a pass towards the head of Sarah Cardamone, who collected the ball and redirected it into the 49er net after finding herself one-on-one with the Niner netminder at 43:48 to give CofC the 1-0 edge and the one-goal advantage heading into the locker rooms.

"We fell behind to a goal right on halftime, which was a little bit of a tough blow. We had to regroup at halftime and I'm proud of the girls for sticking at it with some good quality and intensity. I thought we had some good patience too, especially once we got the equalizer, I thought  we looked strong enough to go on win it.

"It was a great season opener, great result and pleased to get that first one."

Charlotte dominated the early action, taking the game's first two shots and an early corner kick. However, the Cougars were able to reverse the momentum and fired their first attempt in the 16^th minute.

The 49er defense stood tall in the last 10 minutes of the contest, turning away three consecutive corner kick attempts by College of Charleston to maintain the one-goal cushion.

Charlotte returns to action when it welcomes Western Carolina to Transamerica Field for the home opener at 7 p.m. Friday.
