NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Joann Blakney has been named the Atlantic 10 Track and Field Women's Performer of the Week, the conference announced Monday. A two-time Indoor Performer of the Week winner, this marks the first outdoor weekly award of her career.

Blakney, a sophomore from Charlotte, N.C., put up another strong performance this past weekend at the Sea Ray Relays as she recorded top-five finishes in both the 100m (11.57) and 200m (24.18). The Charlotte, N.C., native continues to lead the Atlantic 10 in both events. In addition, Blakney competed on the conference-leading 4x100m and 4x400m relay squads on the weekend.

The NC Central University transfer started off her Charlotte career in fine fashion, putting together a stellar 2012 indoor season that culminated in a pair of Atlantic 10 titles in the 60m and 200m.

Blakney and the rest of the 49ers are set to host the Charlotte Invitational this weekend at Belk Track. The meet will begin Friday, April 20^th and run through Saturday, the 21^st.
