Three Charlotte men's tennis freshmen each captured a singles victory in their first Intercollegiate Tennis Association Regional, as they competed in the ITS Carolinas Regional this weekend in Chapel Hill.

Alex Calott (Charlotte, N.C. / Ardrey Kell HS) and Jack Williams (Alpharetta, Ga. / Alpharetta HS) teamed up Thursday in the doubles draw. They fell 8-4 to Christ and Cook of Furman in the opening round.

Friday, Calott, Williams and fellow Niner Paul Cisti (Arcachon, France) were defeated in the round of 128 in singles play. Calott won his opening set 6-3 against Alex Christ of Furman, but Christ leveled the match with a 6-3 second-set victory and outlasted Calott 7-6 in the third in a 7-5 tiebreaker.

The trio all captured victory in straight sets in their consolation matches Saturday morning.

Calott defeated Rich Meade of Winthrop 6-3, 6-0, with Williams taking down Peter Bleach 6-3, 6-0. Cisti finished the day for Charlotte with an impressive 6-0, 6-1 victory over Alejandro Espita of North Carolina Central.

"I am happy with the way the guys competed this weekend," said head coach Billy Boykin. "We finished strong with three wins today and will look to capitalize on this momentum in practice this week."

Calott leads Charlotte with an 8-2 mark so far in singles play for Charlotte. Cisti is on his heels with seven singles wins (7-5) and Williams is right behind at 6-3 for the Niners this fall.

The squad heads to the coast next Friday for the final tournament of the fall at the College of Charleston Invitational.
