Charlotte 49ers men's basketball coach Alan Major has announced that the 49ers have dismissed senior forward Shamari Spears (Salisbury, N.C.) from the team.  Spears had been suspended indefinitely for a violation of team rules prior to the 49ers  Nov. 27 home game vs. Radford.

"After much consideration, it is the decision of our coaching staff that Shamari Spears and our team part ways at this time," said Major.  "We want to wish him the best in his future endeavors and we will continue to move forward as a team.  In those efforts to move forward, no further comments will be made regarding this matter."

Spears was averaging a team-high 17.0 points with 3.2 rebounds through five games at the time of his suspension. He was named third-team all-Atlantic 10 Conference last year after leading the 49ers with a 16.0 scoring average.  He was a preseason all-Atlantic 10 second team choice, this year.
