Charlotte 49ers junior high jumper Trey McRae (Laurinburg, N.C./Scotland) earned second team all-America honors in the high jump at the 2014 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Eugene, Ore., Friday night.
McRae finished 13th with a jump of 2.10 meters (6-10 3/4) in the field of 24 finalists. This was McRae's first appearance at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
McRae earned a trip to the National Championship meet after placing seventh with a personal-best of 7’1.5 (2.17m) at the NCAA East Preliminary in Jacksonville, Fla. That jump ranks second all-time for the 49ers in the high jump.
McRae is just the second-ever male qualifier for the Niners in the high jump and first in 10 years. School record-holder Will Montgomery was the only previous qualifier.
In 2013, McRae qualified for the NCAA East Preliminary Championship after winning the Atlantic 10 in the high jump. As a freshman, he qualified for the World Junior Championships in Barcelona after placing third at the USA Track and Field Junior Nationals.
The 49ers 4x100 men's relay team of Anthony Bynum, Khyran Shank, LeRoy Rouse and John Osborne which qualified for the NCAA Championnships with a school-record time of 39.70 at the NCAA East Regionals, ran a time of 40.12 in Heat 1 of the NCAA Finals prelims and did not qualify for the finals.
