IRVING, Texas - Twenty-four student-athletes have been named to the 2013-14 Conference USA Track and Field All-Academic Teams. There were 13 men, due to a tie, and 11 women voted onto the teams by the league's sports information directors for the sport. Charlotte leads the list with three award winners on the men's side and one on the women's list.

Honorees must hold a minimum 3.2 grade point average and have used a year of eligibility. Nine finished the academic year with a perfect 4.0 cumulative GPA. North Texas, Rice and UTSA placed three student-athletes on the all-academic teams. Twenty of the 24 honorees boast academic marks better than a 3.8 average.

Graduate student Kim Spano was Charlotte's women's representative with a perfect 4.0 GPA as an elementary education major. Senior pole vaulter Kevin Calhoun, junior distance runner Zach Greth and senior long jumper Coye Still also represented the 49ers. Still is one of three selections to the men's team with a 4.0 GPA or better. Spano is one of six women on the all-academic team with a 4.0 GPA.

"We've found Conference USA to be very challenging athletically and while it's important to be competitive on the track and field, it's very important to be competitive in the classroom,” remarked Head Coach Robert Olesen “I'm very proud of these student-athletes representing us so well at the conference level."

Conference USA will be represented by 125 student-athletes at the 2014 NCAA Men's and Women's Outdoor Track & Field Preliminaries May 29-31.
