IRVING, Tex. – Redshirt senior Corbin Shive represents the Charlotte49ers baseball team on the 2014 Conference USA All-Academic Team announced by league officials on Monday. Shive is one of ten players league-wide that make up the 2014 list. Shive has also earned the Conference USA Commissioner’s Academic Medal and was named to the C-USA Commissioner’s Honor Roll last month.

Shive, a native of Salisbury, North Carolina and graduate of East Rowan High School, is a current graduate student that owns a 4.0 GPA while working on his Masters in Accounting. He is a five-time member of Charlotte's Chancellor's List and a one-time member of the Dean's List. Shive already possesses degrees in Accounting and Finance now pursuing his Masters.

On the field as a two-way player, Shive appeared in nine games on the mound with six starts posting a 2-3 record with a 3.79 earned run average.  Shive would toss a career-high eight innings in a 12-4 win over Wake Forest while fanning a career-high six in early March against UNC Asheville. Offensively, Shive tied for the team lead with five home runs, including a two-run walk-off in the bottom of the ninth inning against VCU. Three of his other four round-trippers would come in Conference USA play nearly missing a two-homer game at Old Dominion towards the end of March.

Two seniors, six juniors, one sophomore and one graduate student covering 10 teams comprise the 2014 Conference USA Baseball All-Academic Team as selected by the media relations contacts at each of the 13 baseball schools. In order to be eligible for the recognition student-athletes must hold a 3.2 cumulative grade point average, be of at least sophomore academic standing and be a starter or key reserve for their team.
