CHARLOTTE, N.C. –
A record-breaking semester in the classroom for the Charlotte women’s tennis program occurred during the Spring 2014 term. The 49ers, under the direction of head coach Michaela Gorman
, turned in the highest on-record semester by any Charlotte athletic team in school history with a 3.68 cumulative GPA.
“This was a great group of student-athletes who worked incredibly hard both in the classroom and on the tennis court,” Gorman said. “I couldn’t be prouder of them and applaud them for their hard work.”
Five of the eight student-athletes on this year’s roster aced the semester, earning a 4.0 GPA and placing them on the prestigious “Perfect Niner” list. The overall group effort helped the women’s tennis program maintain a perfect 1000 APR score and receive NCAA Public Recognition status for the sixth-straight year.
Rising senior and 2014 team MVP Lisa Grosselius
was picked to the Conference USA All-Academic Team, her second-consecutive honor by a league. She grabbed her first conference academic nod by the Atlantic 10 in 2013. The women’s tennis program has had at least conference all-academic team selection in each of the last three years and seven overall times in program history.
Six members of this year’s squad were selected to the Conference USA Commissioner’s Honor Roll, while four collected the Conference USA Academic Medal for having at least a 3.75 cumulative GPA.
