Charlotte, N.C.- FAU's small ball approach kept the Niners off balance taking the first two games of the series, 4-0 and 4-3 (8).  Charlotte fell to 15-20 (6-10 C-USA) while FAU improves to 27-10 with a 9-9 mark in conference play.

Natalie Capone (St. Charles, Ill./ St. Charles North) and Courtney Carroll (Clemmons, N.C./ West Forsyth HS) picked up two hits apiece in the doubleheader sweep.  Carroll went 2-3 in the night cap picking up a timely double in the bottom of the seventh.

Florida Atlantic jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the second inning scoring two runs off one hit.  Three walks in the inning followed by a Christina Martinez double down the left field line plated the first runs of the game for the Owls.

The Owls struck again in the top of the fourth inning for a comfortable 4-0 lead.  Carnesha Thompson drew a lead-off walk and swiped second before coming in to score on the Kathryn Spack triple down the left field line.  Whitney Herb reached on the fielder's choice getting Spack out trying to score.  C. Martinez tripled into the left center gap scoring Herb for the final run of the game.

The night cap did not start any better for the Niners allowing two runs in the top of the first inning.  Back-to-back singles put the Owls in business to open the game.  Jordan Stovall's single to left field followed by a Shelby Knox sacrifice fly plated the first runs of the game for the Owls.

Charlotte had opportunities in the third and sixth innings to scratch across the first runs of the game for the Niners, but base running miscues ended the inning.

FAU pushed across another run in the top of the fourth inning off a solo shot to dead center field by Stovall gave the Owls a comfortable 3-0 lead.

The Niners fought back in the bottom of the seventh to tie things up at three all.  Chelsea Lisikatos (Cold Spring, N.Y./ Haldene HS) drew a one out walk to start the Niner rally.  Chelsea Ingersoll (Charlotte, N.C./ Butler HS) singled to right field to put Lisikatos in scoring position.  Courtney Carroll plated the first run of the game for the Niners finding the right center gap for a RBI double.  Jessie Fennell (Blaine, Tenn./ Grainger HS) placed one through the right side of the infield moving Carroll to third.  A Hayley Lewis (Concord, N.C./ Jay M. Robinson HS) sacrifice fly and a throwing error plated the tying run with the go-ahead run 60 feet away.  A Niner ground out ended the threat.

Florida Atlantic plated the winning run in the top of the eighth inning.  Stovall singled to left field and came around to score on a sacrifice bunt and a throwing miscue giving the Owls the series win.

Lexi Betancourt (Garner, N.C./ West Johnson HS) picked up the loss in both games tossing the first seven innings of play giving up four runs off five hits and five walks.  Betancourt pitched in relief in the night cap tossing the final five innings allowing one unearned run off two hits. Betancourt falls to 14-11 on the season.  Chelsea Lisikatos grabbed a no decision in the night cap tossing the first three innings allowing three runs off six hits.
