Charlotte, NC – Four members of the Charlotte 49ers nationally-ranked men’s soccer program headlined by Aidan Kirkbride earned NSCAA Scholar honors. Kirkbride was named third-team NSCAA Scholar All-American. Kirkbride earned first-team NSCAA Scholar All-South Region honors as well. Klay Davis, Anthony Perez and Tyler Gibson were named second-team NSCAA Scholar All-South Region.
Kirkbride is the sixth different Niner to earn NSCA Scholar All-American honors. For the second straight season, the 49ers had four players earn NSCAA Scholar All-South Region honors.
Kirkbride, Davis, Perez and Gibson played an integral role in the helping the 49ers capture the Conference USA Tournament title and earn a national seed in the NCAA Tournament this past season. Over their four-year careers, these four players helped the 49ers reach the 2011 College Cup Final, earn three NCAA Tournament bids and capture two A-10 regular-season titles and one Conference USA Tournament title.
Kirkbride, who has a 3.77 GPA in Accounting, earned third-team NSCAA All-South Region honors this past season. He was also named first-team All-Conference USA as well as to the Conference USA All-Academic team. He finished third on the team with four goals, with two of those being game winners. Kirkbride played every match at midfield for the 49ers. Kirkbride helped with the 49ers defense that shutout 11 opponents on the season.
Kirkbride finished his career with 10 goals and seven assists.
Davis, who had a 3.36 GPA in Exercise Science, graduated last Saturday. Davis, who earned first-team All-Atlantic 10 honors in 2012, was named Conference USA Defensive Player of the Week four time this past season. This past season, Davis helped the 49ers record 11 shutouts and he finished the season with a 0.75 goals against average.
Davis finished his career with a school-record 0.77 career goals against average. He also finished with school-records for career wins in goal with 45 and career shutouts at 29.3.
Gibson, who had a 3.82 GPA in Marketing, graduated last Saturday. Gibson was named to the Conference USA All-Tournament team after scoring the game-winning goal in the 49ers 1-0 victory over Tulsa in the Championship game. He also earned third-team Capital One Academic All-American honors a couple of weeks ago. He was also named to the Conference USA All-Academic team.
Gibson, who was named to the Hermann Award Watch list as a junior and a senior, was a three-time first-team All-Atlantic 10 selection. He was also a two-time first-team NSCAA All-Mid-Atlantic Region selection. Last season, he was named first-team NSCAA Scholar All-American.
Gibson finished his career with 13 goals and 20 assists.
Perez, who had a 3.33 GPA in Psychology, graduated last Saturday. Perez recorded two assists this past season. He was a stalwart on a 49ers defense which recorded 11 shutouts and limited 17 foes to a goal or less last year.
Over his career, Perez helped the 49ers defense record 39 shutouts. He finished his career with two goals and six assists.
