Charlotte, NC – The Charlotte 49ers men’s tennis program, who have won at least 14 matches in each of the last two seasons, announced their 2014 schedule. Coach Billy Boykin, who is in his fourth year at the helm of the 49ers men’s tennis program, welcomes back nine letterwinners off a 2013 team which won 14 matches and reached the Atlantic 10 Tournament Semifinals. All-Atlantic 10 selections Alex Calott, Paul Cisti, Kamil Khalil, Jordi Massalle Ferrer and Jack Williams headline the returning letterwinners.
"We're looking forward to some great match play this spring,” Boykin said. “Our schedule features a number of nationally ranked programs and will test us repeatedly throughout the season. We'll have to be ready to compete in every single match this year."
The 49ers schedule is highlighted by eight matches at Charlotte’s beautiful Halton-Wagner Tennis Complex.
Charlotte begins the 2013 schedule on the road at nationally-ranked Wake Forest, January 11.
Then, the 49ers play six of their seven matches in the month of February at the Halton-Wagner Tennis Complex. Charlotte hosts Mercer in their home opener, February 2. The Mercer match begins a four-match home stand for the 49ers. Then, Charlotte plays Gardner-Webb at home, February 5. Charlotte hosts Conference USA foe UAB, February 9. The 49ers conclude their four-match home stand against Wofford, February 12. Charlotte faces Winthrop on the road, February 14. The 49ers conclude the month of February with home matches against The Citadel, February 21 and George Washington, February 28.
Charlotte begins the month of March with a home match against Duquesne, March 3. Charlotte plays Georgia State on the road, March 15. The 49ers return home for their final home match on March 18 against Appalachian State. Then, the 49ers have road matches at UNC Asheville, March 21 and UNC Greensboro, March 26. Charlotte faces Conference USA foe East Carolina at the College of Charleston, March 29. Then, the 49ers play College of Charleston on the road, March 30.
The 49ers begin the month of April with a match at cross-county rival Davidson, April 3. Then, the 49ers face Presbyterian on the road, April 8. The 49ers conclude the regular-season at UNC Wilmington, April 11. The regular-season culminates with the Conference USA Championships at the University of Tulsa in Tulsa, Oklahoma, April 17-20.
