After logging 16,000 travel miles in their first three tournaments, Charlotte golf will stay in-state and head to Durham and just 145 miles to the Rod Myers Invitational, hosted by Duke University this weekend. The teams will play 54 holes over two days, this Saturday and Sunday at The Duke Golf Club.

The Duke University Golf Club, host of the 1962 and 2001 NCAA Championships, will play as a 7,154-yard, par 72 for the 2013 Rod Myers Invitational. The course is in terrific condition after undergoing a half million dollar greens and tee box restoration over the summer. The greens now feature Champion Bermuda grass and have been expanded by roughly 33 percent, back to the size they were originally designed by Trent Jones, Sr. nearly 60 years ago. The approaches to all 18 greens were resurfaced and replanted with Tifgrand Bermuda to create a smooth playing surface. The Duke University Golf Club reopened to the public on Sept. 2, 2013.

The 49ers finish their 2013-14 schedule with seven tournaments, all of which they competed in last season. The 49ers took third of 11 teams at three-over par in this event last fall, with senior Braeden Cryderman tying for third and then-junior Franco Castro (Alpharetta, Ga. / LSU) tying for tenth.

Castro will lead the squad back to Durham following his third-place finish this week at the Jerry Pate National Collegiate in Alabama, which ended Tuesday. It was his third Top-Five finish of his career.

Sophomore Thomas Rowland (Consett, England / St. Bedes Catholic School & Sixth Form College) was the 49ers’ next-best performer in Alabama this week, finishing in a tie for 18th, logging par on 44 of his 54 holes for the tournament, for a five-over finish.

Junior Raoul Menard (Ange-Gardien, Quebec / Beaulieu) also will be in the lineup for the 49ers. The lone C-USA Player of the Week winner from Charlotte this season. Menard recorded his seventh Top-10 finish of his career a few weeks ago at the Rees Jones Invitational in Daufuskie Island, S.C., when his four-over 220 put him ninth in the field.

Sophomores John Boehme (Jacksonville Beach, Fla. / Sandalwood HS) and Daniel Brantley (Asheboro, N.C.) join the lineup for the 49ers. Brantley played well as an individual at the Heel Deivl Invitational last fall, and competed in his ninth collegiate event, while Boehme will be competing in his fifth collegiate event.

Charlotte will bring two individuals to compete at Duke. Sophomore Riley Davenport (Woodstock, Ga. / Sequoya HS) will be in his first event of 2013, while freshman Seth Gandy plays in his third of Charlotte’s four events in his first collegiate season.

Charlotte and host Duke will be joined by Baylor, Iowa, Liberty, North Carolina, Northwestern, Ohio State, Pacific and Conference USA foes East Carolina and Tulsa.

The teams will play two rounds Saturday and a final round on Sunday. Live results will be posted at all weekend.
