|Volleyball Starts Spring Tournament Slate Saturday|
Charlotte volleyball begins its competition portion of the spring practice period this weekend, with a trip to Greensboro in the Spartans Spring Fling Invitational this Saturday, April 6. The 49ers will take on Winthrop, Elon, East Carolina and host UNCG throughout the day. A full schedule of events, including Charlotte’s competition court and times can be found at the UNCG Spartans Web site.
The 49ers will compete at North Carolina State the next Saturday and conclude the competition portion of the spring on April 20 at Chapel Hill.
“We are excited to play at UNC Greensboro this Saturday,” said Charlotte head coach Chris Redding. “The team has been working extremely hard in the weight room and on the court so far this semester. Our spring competitions will be a welcomed opportunity to change gears from training together every day to improving at competing as a team. I think the next three weeks will be a very important and beneficial time for our team.”
The 49ers graduated four seniors off of the 2012 squad, which finished 10-16 on the season, but captured two early tournament titles in the pre-conference schedule. The 49ers will need to replace some kills on the outside, but had a feisty young squad last fall. Captain Amanda Videmsek (Highland Heights, Ohio / Beaumont School) will lead the team this spring and into the fall season, where the 49ers will return to Conference USA.
Charlotte will begin the 2013 fall campaign at the Davidson Wildcat Classic in late August.
