|Charlotte to compete at the Florida Relays|
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – After several great performances last weekend, the Charlotte track and field team will travel to Gainesville for the legendary Florida Relays beginning on Thursday, April 4.
The three-day meet which concludes on Saturday, April 6, will include thousands of collegiate and high school athletes that represent some of the top programs and talent in the country.
The collegiate section of the meet begins on Friday, April 5 with the men’s hammer at noon. The running events begin at 12:35 p.m. with the women’s 100-meter hurdles. On Saturday, the meet will open with the women’s hammer at 10 a.m.
The 49er men enjoyed an all-around performance at the Virginia Invitational where they finished first with a team score of 148. Charlotte secured wins in multiple events and was led by several athletes.
Khyran Shank (100m), Anthony Bynum (400m), Isaac McReynolds (110m hurdles), Jake Deaton (discus throw), Anthony Campbell (triple jump), and the 4x100m relay team (John Osborne, LeRoy Rouse, Shank, and Bynum) all finished first in their respective events last weekend.
The women are coming off a fourth place finish at the Virginia Invitational where they tallied a team score of 83.5. Juanita Leto led three Niners in the 100m hurdles final to win the event with a time of 14.13. Charlotte also showed depth in its field events where seven athletes finished in the top eight.
A few members of the track and field team will compete at the Duke Invitational on Friday, April 5. The meet begins at noon with the women’s javelin and the running events are scheduled for 3:30 p.m. The meet wraps up on Saturday with the field events starting at 9 a.m. and track events at 10 a.m.
