CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Charlotte track and field team enjoyed another successful day at the 49er Classic at the Irwin Belk Track & Field Center on Friday.
In the discus, Katrina Wright finished third with a toss of 151’10.
Nick Swan finished fourth in the decathlon with a point total of 5699. On Friday Swan competed in five events and had his best performance in the 110m hurdles with a time of 16.16. He was sixth in the pole vault (11’03.75), tenth in the 1500m run (5:03.99), and 11th in the discus throw (91’02) and javelin (128’08).
In the heptathlon, Alicia Gainey finished sixth overall (4030). She was sixth in the long jump (16’10.5), 16th in the javelin (66’09), and 19th in the 800m (3:05.56). Evelyn Putman was eighth (3819) and was fifth in the long jump (17’02.75) and 18th in the javelin (64’02) and 800m (2:54.15).
In preliminary rounds, Charlotte had several athletes to qualify for Saturday’s final.
The Niners advanced a pair of runners in the 100m hurdles and 100m. Blakney (11.83) and Jones (11.93) were fourth and fifth respectively in the 100m. Juanito Leto (14.03) and LeAnna Morrison finished fifth and seventh advancing to the finals. Morrison was also fifth in the 400m hurdles (1:03.35).
Brian Hamilton was seventh in the 400m (49.14).
The final day of the 49er Classic resumes on Saturday, March 15 at 10 a.m. with the field events. The running events begin at 11 a.m.
