49ers Fall In A-10 Quarters To #16 Saint Louis

Brooklyn, NY - Chris Braswell recorded his 24th career double-double, but the Charlotte 49ers (21-11) lost to top-seed 16th -ranked Saint Louis, 72-55, in the Atlantic 10 Quarterfinals.

"Congratulations to Saint Louis," Charlotte coach Alan Major said. "We weren't quite ourselves today. Saint Louis disrupted us a bit. We didn't take good care of the basketball."

Braswell led the 49ers with his second double-double of the season with 20 points and 10 rebounds. He connected on two three-point field goals in the game. His 20-point performance was his fifth 20-point scoring game of the season and the 14th of his career.

Willie Clayton finished the game with eight points and seven rebounds. Pierria Henry scored seven points, grabbed seven rebounds and dished out five assists.

The 49ers connected on five three-point field goals. Ivan Benkovic and Braswell each knocked down two threes apiece. The 49ers also finished the with a 39-34 advantage on the boards and a 31-22 advantage on bench points.

Saint Louis began the game by scoring nine of the first 13 points over the first four minutes. Saint Louis pushed their lead to 19-10 with 11:36 on the clock.

Then, Braswell and Benkovic knocked down threes cutting Saint Louis's lead to 19-16 with 10:51 on the clock.

Saint Louis went on a 13-0 run over the next two minutes pushing their lead to 32-16 with 8:41 on the clock.

Charlotte answered Saint Louis' run by outscoring Saint Louis 12-4 over the next seven minutes cutting Saint Louis' lead to 36-28 when Henry connected on a jumper in the lane with 1:49 on the clock.

Saint Louis' Jake Barnett knocked down a three from the corner with 1:25 left in the half giving Saint Louis a 39-28 halftime lead.

Saint Louis scored the first basket of the second half pushing their lead to 13 points. Then, the 49ers behind the scoring of Terrence Williams, Braswell and Henry cut Saint Louis' lead to 43-36 when Braswell knocked down a three with 13:03 on the clock.

However, that would be as close as the 49ers would get as Saint Louis scored nine straight points pushing their lead to 52-36 with 9:17 on the clock.

Now, the 49ers will wait until this Sunday evening to find out their postseason fate once the NCAA Tournament and NIT brackets are released.
