CHARLOTTE, N.C. – After a successful run in the indoor season, the Charlotte track and field team is ready to keep that momentum going as it opens the 2013 outdoor season at home by hosting the 49er Classic at the Irwin Belk Track & Field Center beginning on Thursday, March 14. Live results will be available each day of the meet through Flash Results at www.flashresults.com. The three-day meet that features almost 50 programs from across the nation starts on Thursday with the heptathlon at 11:30 a.m. followed by the decathlon at 11:45 a.m. Those two events will complete Thursday’s schedule as Friday and Saturday consist of a full day of events. On Friday, the meet opens with the field events at noon and the running events at 1 p.m. Saturday begins with the field events at 10 a.m. and the running events at 11 a.m. After sweeping the Atlantic 10 Indoor Championships a few weeks ago, along with the 2012 A-10 Outdoor Championships, the 49ers are well-equipped for another successful season. The women were led by several standouts that performed well throughout the indoor season. Joann Blakney, T'Sheila Mungo, Briauna Jones, Maraya Slatter, Toby Jo Klauenberg, Katrina Wright, and LeAnna Morrison highlighted the women’s team along with rookies Alvonna Blakney and Morgan Richards. The men’s team displayed consistent efforts from Cordell Livingston, Khyran Shank, Jake Deaton, Anthony Bynum, Trey McRae, LeRoy Rouse, Sean Kluttz, and Brian Hamilton. The newcomers really made an impression in their first season in the green and gold. Rookie Chris Tate, Anthony Bynum, Will Thomas, and Anthony Campbell performed well during the indoor season and at the conference championships. Following the 49er Classic, Charlotte will compete at the HPU VertKlasse meet, hosted by High Point beginning on Friday, March 22.
