Win streak hits four for 49ers women’s tennis
GREENVILLE, N.C. - The Charlotte women's tennis team picked up its fourth-straight victory, traveling across the state to Greenville for a 4-3 come-from-behind win over East Carolina Friday afternoon. The triumph was the fourth straight for the 49ers, including the last two on the road.

"This was a complete team victory," head coach Michaela Gorman said. "We faced a lot of adversity throughout the match and showed true grit to earn the 4-3 victory over a tough East Carolina team."

For the first time this season, Charlotte (6-1) did not earn the doubles point on its way to picking up the team win. However, the Niners captured four singles triumphs, including each position in the bottom half of the lineup, to complete the rally.

The lone doubles win came at the No. 1 slot, where Anna Ekelund and Lisa Grosselius handed Melis Tanik and Yilian Zhang an 8-1 setback. Despite not having the point as momentum for the first time in four tries, the 49ers were able to pull out the four singles triumphs, including a pair of three-set decisions.

Alexandra Zinn tallied a straight-set victory against Zhang at the top position, handing the Pirates' top player a 6-2, 6-2 loss. Ekelund was also triumphant in straight sets, taking a 6-3, 6-0 victory over Abby Richmond during the No. 5 meeting.

While East Carolina (4-2) captured two of its three points in singles play, the Charlotte squad battled through and garnered three-set wins in the final two clinching matches.

Tyler Baker posted a 3-6, 7-6 (7), 6-4 triumph over Danielle Terpko at the No. 4 slot, while Iveta Guneva notched a 6-1, 4-6, 6-3 win against Dana Gray in the No. 6 contest.

The 49ers return to the courts at 2:30 p.m. Monday when they play host to Appalachian State at the Halton-Wagner Tennis Complex. The in-state tilt will be the start of a five-match homestand for Charlotte, its longest of the season.
