Paul Cisti won a hard fought three set match to help the 49ers to a 4-3 win over the College of Charleston.
The Charlotte 49ers men's tennis team (5-4) topped the College of Charleston in a highly contested match, 4-3, at the Halton-Wagner Tennis Complex. "We squeaked by a really solid Charleston team
today," Charlotte coach Billy Boykin said. "They were an NCAA Tournament team
last year and are just as tough a team this year. I thought our doubles play
was very good and it gave us a lift as we went into the singles. We competed
hard at every spot and found enough points to hang on for a win." The 49ers won three singles matches to capture the team win. At number one singles, Charlotte's Williams defeated College of Charleston's Allanic in three hard fought sets, 6-2, 6-7, 6-3. At number two singles, Charlotte's Calott lost to College of Charleston's Lopez, 6-3, 7-6. At number three singles, Charlotte's Massalle Ferrer defeated Charleston's Crescente Lesser, 6-1, 7-6. At number four singles, Charlotte's Cisti defeated Charleston's Ghriskey, 1-6, 6-2. 6-2. At number five singles, Charlotte's Khalil lost to Charleston's Faiman, 6-3, 6-1. At number six singles, Charlotte's Kwasniewicz lost to Charleston's Lewis, 7-5, 7-6. Charlotte concludes their five-match home stand when they play UNC Greensboro at the Halton-Wagner Tennis Complex, Saturday, February 16 at 12 pm. |
