|49ers Fall To Campbell At Home|
CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Alex Calott and Jordi Massalle Ferrer posted singles victory, but the Charlotte 49ers (3-4) lost to Campbell (3-2), 5-2, at the Halton-Wagner Tennis Complex.
"This was a tough loss," Charlotte coach Billy Boykin said. "Weather conditions were tough out there today for everyone and after edging us out of the double point in a tie break, Campbell used that momentum to carry them through the singles."
Campbell won two of three highly contested double matches to claim the doubles point. At number one doubles, Charlotte's Massalle Ferrer and Jack Williams defeated Campbell's Adrien Rossingnon and Josep Baro, 8-4. At number two doubles, Charlotte's Calott and Paul Cisti lost to Campbell's Fernando Guillen and David Clavera in a tiebreaker, 8-7 (7-1). Then, Charlotte's Kamil Khalil and Krzysztof Kwasniewicz lost to Campbell's Steven Billington and Ondrej Kralik, 8-5.
Campbell won four of the six singles matches to claim the victory. At number one singles, Charlotte's Williams lost to Campbell's Guillen, 6-3, 6-3. At number two singles, Charlotte's Calott defeated Campbell's Billington, 6-3, 0-6, 6-2. At number three singles, Charlotte's Massalle Ferrer defeated Campbell's Rossingnon, 7-5, 7-6. At number four singles, Charlotte's Khalil lost to Campbell's Clavera, 6-4, 7-6. At number five singles, Charlotte's Cisti lost to Campbell's Baro, 7-5, 6-1. At number six singles, Charlotte's Nate Shanok lost to Campbell's Rick Van Gerwen, 7-3, 7-6 (9-7).
Charlotte continues their five match home stand when they play Mercer at the Halton-Wagner Tennis Complex, Friday, February 8 at 1 pm.
