CHARLOTTE, N.C. -Sophomore T'Sheila Mungo of the Charlotte women's track and field team is no stranger to smashing school records or being a top performer in the Atlantic 10 conference. However, Mungo's hard work and precise efforts landed her as the top collegiate performer in the nation in the 500 meter dash so for this season.

Mungo set a school record in the 500m with a time of 1:11.03 at the Virginia Tech Invitational at Rector Field House Friday evening. She broke the previous indoor record of 1:12.68 which she set at the Atlantic 10 Indoor Championship last year. Additionally, her time is ranked first among hundreds of athletes across the nation that competed last week.

Only a sophomore, Mungo has already established an athletic resume that most student-athletes will never achieve. She made an immediate impact in her freshman season and was named the A-10 Women's Indoor Outstanding Rookie Performer. Mungo quickly made her way onto and up the Charlotte all-time top ten list and is a part of a record-setting relay team.

When asked what her motivation is, the hesitant Mungo simply responds, "I don't know. It's just something in me. I just want to be the best."

Mungo credits her team for being such a great support system which is more than fitting due to the continued success of her teammates and the Charlotte track and field program as a whole.

"We're very proud of T'Sheila and her unprecedented accomplishment for the program and excited to see where this amazing season will lead," head coach Robert Olesen.

The Niners who've already displayed an impressive indoor campaign, will keep the season rolling when they head to Blacksburg for the Hokie Invitational beginning on Friday, January 25.
