|Fall season ends at ITA Regional|
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Charlotte 49ers women's tennis team put a cap on its fall campaign by concluding competition Friday at the ITA Carolina Regional in Winston-Salem, N.C. Two 49ers played in singles, while the Niners also had two doubles tandems participate.
Main draw doubles started the day and both Charlotte pairings fell in their respective Round of 32 contests. North Carolina's Tessa Lyons and Lauren McHale tallied an 8-0 victory over the 49ers' Natsuko Takayanagi and Alexandra Zinn.
Anna Ekelund and Lisa Grosselius dropped an 8-5 meeting with Elon's seeded duo of Frida Jansaker and Jordan Johnston.
Singles action resumed after doubles reached the quarterfinal round. Zinn battled Dominika Kanakova from South Carolina in the Round of 64 but fell 6-1, 6-2.
Ekelund also saw time in the Round of 64 but lost her match up with North Carolina's Laura Slater 6-0, 6-0.
Charlotte will return to the courts in the spring when it starts the full dual match slate in late January. The 49ers are scheduled to face nine opponents at the Halton-Wagner Tennis Complex but will begin the campaign with a neutral-site match against Radford in Davidson, N.C., January 25.
