WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Three doubles victories, including a pair by the tandem of Natsuko Takayanagi and Alexandra Zinn, highlighted day one action Friday for the Charlotte women's tennis team at the Wake Forest Invitational.

The duo posted back-to-back wins in the B flight to advance to Saturday's semifinals. The pairing opened the day with an 8-5 triumph over Navy's Logan Antill and Gabby Winter in the Round of 16 before knocking off Richmond's Emily Gitman and Elizabeth Sims, 8-4, in the quarterfinals.

The only other doubles victory on the day for the 49ers was in the D bracket, as Ginny Johnson and Jessica Pérez garnered an 8-6 Round of 16 decision over the mixed team of Elon's Caroline Baker and Radford's Allison Michael. The Charlotte tandem then lost in the quarterfinals, setting up a third-place match Saturday in the flight.

Pérez was the lone 49er to earn a singles win out of the seven matches competed throughout the day. She continued the strong start to her collegiate career with a hard-fought 6-3, 6-7 (2), 7-6 (5) decision against Davidson's Tamara Hill in the F Singles Round of 16.

Tournament action at the Wake Forest Tennis Complex will continue Saturday and Sunday.
