Charlotte Director of Athletics Judy Rose has announced the contract
extension of head golf coach Ryan Cabbage through the 2016 season. Cabbage is
entering his second year with the program after a successful 2011 campaign.
"I am very appreciative of the commitment shown to me by
Judy Rose and (Senior Associate Athletic Director for Business) Darin Spease as
we continue to build on the past successes of the golf program at Charlotte,"
said Cabbage. "This has been a tremendous opportunity, my family and I really
enjoy the city of Charlotte, and I am proud to come to work every day with the
wonderful people of Charlotte Athletics and our wonderful University."
Last season, the golf program earned an at-large bid to the
NCAA Regionals, the program's school-record eighth consecutive trip to the
postseason.
"When
a coach steps up and meets the requirements that we have established for having
a contract, no matter how long they have been employed by us, I want to reward
those individuals," said Rose. "Our golf program has continued to flourish
under Ryan's leadership, both on the course and in the classroom. I am thrilled
for Ryan and for our student athletes."
A 1998 graduate of Auburn, Cabbage was an assistant for 10
years with the men's program and another two with the women's golf team before
arriving at Charlotte in June of 2011. Those Auburn teams made it to the
postseason 11 of his 12 combined seasons with the programs.
So far through three tournaments in 2012, the program has
notched a third-place finish at the Tar Heel Invitational and most recently
finished fourth at the Rees Jones Collegiate Invite. Freshman Dan Hendry earned
Atlantic 10 Conference Golfer of the Week at the end of September.
The team has a retooled roster this season, with five
freshmen and a transfer to add to the three returning players from 2011.
