Charlotte, who returns eight letterwinners and three starters, were picked 12th of 16 teams in the preseason poll. Saint Joseph's was chosen as the preseason favorite.
The league announced the poll and awards Thursday in conjunction with its annual Media Day, held at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, which is the site of the 2013 Atlantic 10 Tournament . Both the awards and the predicted order of finish were chosen by a panel of the league's head coaches and media members.
Saint Joseph's was picked to finish first. Saint Louis, VCU and Temple round the top four teams in the preseason poll. Massachusetts, Butler, La Salle and Dayton were picked to finish between 5th and 8th respectively. Xavier, Richmond, St. Bonaventure and Charlotte round out the top 12 teams in the preseason poll.
Last season, Braswell became the 24th 49er to score 1,000 career points. He enters his senior season with 1085 career points. He led the 49ers in scoring (15.8 ppg) and rebounding (7.6 rpg) and blocked shots (36) last year. He averaged 16.9 points per game in Atlantic 10 play which is the 49ers highest league scoring average since Lamont Mack averaged 17.6 points per game in 2008-09.
Last season, Henry broke the 49ers' 28-year old freshman steals record with 72 steals. He finished second in the A-10 and seventh in the nation in steals at 2.6 per game. He also averaged 7.2 points, 3.6 rebounds and 3.4 assists per game. He recorded nine double-figure scoring games including a season-high 14 points against Rhode Island.
The 49ers begin practice for the 2012-13 season on Friday, October 12th. Niner Nation will get their first look at the 49ers with Basketball Madness on Thursday, October 18th and Fan Day on Saturday, October 20th. The 49ers play Pfeiffer in an exhibition game in Halton Arena on Thursday, November 1.
