Charlotte, NC - The Charlotte 49ers men's tennis team blanked Belmont Abbey, 7-0, and Johnson C. Smith, 7-0, in their first two dual matches of the 2012-13 season at the Halton-Wagner Tennis Complex.

"I was pleased with our intensity level and our focus today," Charlotte coach Billy Boykin said.  "This might be the deepest team that I've coached and we were able to lean on our depth today.  We had solid performances in singles and doubles from all of our kids and our overall energy level was terrific.  I'm looking forward to some more match play next weekend."

Charlotte began the day with a victory over Belmont Abbey. The 49ers claimed the doubles point after sweeping all three doubles matches. At number one doubles, Charlotte's Alex Calott and Paul Cisti defeated Belmont Abbey's Conner McMann and Tom Wigley, 8-3. In number two doubles, Charlotte's Jordi Massalle Ferrer and Alex Weber defeated Belmont Abbey's Gabriel Trombini and Idris Moya, 8-0. In number three doubles, Charlotte's Krysztof Kwasniewicz and Hector Linares defeated Belmont Abbey's Michael Van Dusen and Tim Tanko, 8-2.

Charlotte won all six singles matches in straight sets. At number one singles, Charlotte's Massalle Ferrer defeated Belmont Abbey's McMann, 6-2, 6-2. At number two singles, Charlotte's Forrest Edwards defeated Belmont Abbey's Wigley, 6-0, 6-0. At number three singles, Charlotte's Jack Williams defeated Belmont Abbey's Trombini, 6-0, 6-2. At number four singles, Charlotte's Calott defeated Belmont Abbey's Tim Tanko, 6-0, 6-1. At number five singles, Charlotte's Cisti defeated Belmont Abbey's Van Dusen, 6-1, 6-1. At number six singles, Charlotte's Nate Shanok defeated Belmont Abbey's Moya, 6-0, 6-0.

Then, the 49ers completed the day with a 7-0 win over Johnson C. Smith. The 49ers claimed the doubles point after sweeping all three doubles matches. At number one doubles, Charlotte's Williams and Edwards defeated Johnson C. Smith's Dion Chever and Darrell Sawyer, 8-1. At number two doubles, Charlotte's Calott and Cisti defeated Johnson C. Smith's Kia Brewington and Yusuf Barnes, 8-0. At number three doubles, Charlotte's Shanok and Linares defeated Johnson C. Smith's Sharif Axam and Tobias Whitley, 8-0.

Charlotte won all six singles matches in straight sets. At number one singles, Charlotte's Calott defeated Johnson C. Smith's Sawyer, 6-0, 6-0. At number two singles, Charlotte's Cisti defeated Johnson C. Smith's Chever, 6-0, 6-0. At number three singles, Charlotte's Edwards defeated Johnson C. Smith's Barnes, 6-2, 6-1. At number four singles, Charlotte's Massalle Ferrer defeated Johnson C. Smith's Brewington, 6-0, 6-0. At number five singles, Charlotte's Weber defeated Johnson C. Smith's Axam, 6-1, 6-0. At number six singles, Charlotte's Kwasniewicz defeated Johnson C. Smith's Whitley, 6-0, 6-0.

The 49ers return to action at the Jeff Frank Invitational at Davidson College, October 5-6.
