GREENVILLE, N.C. - Charlotte had to wait over 24 hours to
put another notch in the win column but the 49er women's soccer team did just
that Monday night, picking up a 1-0 road victory at future Conference USA foe
East Carolina at ECU Soccer Stadium in Greenville, N.C.
Senior Carrie Dail did not let the weather-affected postponement bother her scoring ability, as she tallied the game's only goal at 22:24. She fired her attempt past Pirate goalkeeper Christiane Cordero to give Charlotte the 1-0 lead off a loose ball from 35 yards out. Neither team would break through the remainder of the period, as the 49ers staved off seven East Carolina (2-3) shots to maintain the one-goal advantage at the break.
Charlotte (3-2) continued to push forward during the early stages of the second stanza, with a pair of corner kicks in the first 10 minutes; however, neither set piece turned fruitful and the 49ers managed to still lead by one.
Again, neither team was able to find the back of the net again during the second half, as Charlotte goalkeeper Alex Kubrick finished with three saves for her second shutout of the campaign, both coming against in-state opponents.
Maddie Kiebel paced the 49ers with two shots, while five others had an attempt apiece. Three different Pirates tallied two shots each.
Charlotte will return to action when it welcomes North Florida to Transamerica Field at 7 p.m. Friday.
