The 49ers men's soccer team advanced to the NCAA Championship game.
McLean, Va. (June 27, 2012) - On the strength of its men's soccer team's trip to the NCAA National Championship game, the Charlotte 49ers men's athletic program ranked 23rd in the final Capital One Cup standings, released by Capital One Financial Corporation (NYSE: COF), an official NCAA® Corporate Champion, today. Charlotte accumulated 36 points, thanks to its final rank of #2 in the NSCAA Men's Division I Soccer Coaches poll. In the final Capital One Cup standings, the 49ers were the top-ranked team in the Atlantic 10 Conference and the third-ranked team in the Carolinas, behind #5 North Carolina and #17 South Carolina. Schools earn points based on their teams' top-10 finishes in NCAA Division I championships and in final official coaches' polls across 19 men's and 20 women's sports. Florida's men's program won the Capital One Cup for the second straight year while Stanford claimed the women's title.
